An inconvenient truth

During my first year at university, our English literature professor gave us the opportunity to write a sonnet for extra credit. This is the result. A typical love sonnet. Or is it? While creating this sonnet, I discovered my love for writing. And for a good sense of humour.

Vibrations through my skin: that’s how it seems
Alive is how I feel when you’re nearby
Now I can only see you in my dreams
Dawn comes too fast and parts us as I cry

Ecstatic was my heart each time we met
We promised we would never be apart
Eternity with you will be my debt
You said you’d take me with you in your heart

Enjoy your life though it is not with me
Reborn is what I am now that you’re gone
At last you told the truth that set me free
Vibrations perished, my life will go on

Alas you don’t look like a summer’s day
Now you have just told me that you are gay
