Here it is, the second very short short story of the year, based on 5 words. This time, I had to work with canoe, chalk, apple, compassion and ramble. I have to admit, it took me some time to make it work. But I’m really happy with the result. Let me know what you think about it in the comments.
“What time do you think it is?”
“I don’t know.”
“How many days has it been?”
“I don’t know.”
“Do you think we’ll be here much longer?”
“I don’t know.”
“You know what, I’m just trying to make conversation.”
“Don’t.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, am I annoying you?”
“Yes.”
“Jesus, would it kill you to show some compassion?”
“At this point? Probably.”
“Do you want me to apologise? Is that it?”
“I want you to stop rambling on.”
“No, no, I get it, I’ll apologise. I’m sorry the current got too strong. I’m sorry I panicked. I’m sorry we drifted off. I’m sorry we’ve been in this goddamn canoe for God knows how long, going God knows where.”
“Mhm.”
“And I’m sorry for eating the last apple. Okay? I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done it while you were asleep. I just … I was so hungry … So, I’m sorry, okay? Are you happy now?”
“No.”
“Jesus Christ, can you stop being so calm for one second? What do you want, huh? Do you want me to write it in chalk all over this canoe? I’M SORRY!”
“I want to eat.”
“I … I know you do. But there’s nothing left.”
“Yes, there is.”
“Really? You found something to eat?”
“Who said it was a thing?”
